Want to find out what is going on in other parts of your country, or even other parts of your world? If you do, that is what is called the regional part of where you live. The immediate area surrounding the place where you live and states and cities relatively close to you are defined as being in your regional area. For example, let's say that you live in Canada and want to find out what is happening in the United States. The United States would be considered regional to Canada simply because it is close and nearby. Also, if you are within the United States itself or if you are in another country, you can also call cities and states regional to yourself. For this example, we'll turn to the United States. Florida can say that Georgia is regional to itself because they are both very near to each other; in the same way, Ohio and Indiana can say that they are within each other's regions because they are located in the same way that Florida and Georgia are to each other.

On the other hand, we can speak of countries and states being regional to each other in the broad sense. For example, if you are in one part of the world and are discussing the news in the other parts of the world, you might use a phrase like, "all the surrounding regions." That would encompass all of the countries that are sitting nearby and are affected by whatever newsworthy discussion you are having. The United States would be regional to Canada, Iraq would be considered regional to Iran, and so on.

All in all, you do not have to simply live right next to another country or another state only to call it regional to yourself. On the contrary, we should think of each of our brother nations as if it were regional to us in the way that their news affects us and our news and events affects them. Everyone is concerned at what is happening on a daily basis is specific parts of the country and labeling certain parts of the world regional to one another so that they're off limits to others just does not make sense! Pay attention to what is happening all across the world and get involved on a regional and worldwide basis!
